Website Updates

I finally added my old games I'd created to the Games page. While adding them, of course I had to play them a bit, and it made me miss programming for fun. It's been too long since I've done that! So hopefully soon I will be making more.

I recently moved from northern Michigan to the Chicago area, where I'd lived all my life before college. I must admit it's nice to be just a train ride away from a big city after living in such a tiny tourist town! I'm definitely not cut out for small-town life, even though I tend to stay inside more often than not. I guess it's because when I do go somewhere, I want there to be somewhere to go!

I've been feeling more motivated overall lately. I composed a new piece as well, as you can see on the Music page (the one entitled "Rain"). And I started a new book. Of course, I shouldn't be focusing my energy on a new book until after I start trying to get the old one published, right? Please bug me to start attempting!

New Favorite Band?

For the longest time, Muse was my favorite band due to their awesome music and classical influences. Well, I believe I have a found not only a new favorite band, but also a new favorite genre.

Progressive metal mixes the awesome guitars and beats of metal with the complexity and demanding musicianship of classical/jazz. Symphony X is a great band with incredibly talented musicians and very awesome music. One thing I love about progressive music is the fact that the songs aren't always the same generic verse/chorus/verse/chorus format. A progressive song does what it wants to do. Sometimes it can end up being twenty minutes long! An awesome song by Symphony X is The Odyssey, which is a twenty-minute musical retelling of the story by the same name, complete with orchestral arrangement.

So be sure to check out Symphony X or even Dream Theater (who are probably the most well-known of the progressive metal genre)!

A Much-Needed Update

Well, it seems as if I have been neglecting what I thought would become my blog back in June! I'll try to be better with this. I just need to code the ability to navigate through the blog and to leave comments (tying AJAX in somehow cause AJAX just rules) and then I will finally update my RSS feed to grab these new entries instead of the ones from my old site.

Sigh. There are few things more frustrating that trying to update a .htaccess file when most graphical ftp applications hide the file (as they are meant to do, really). Thank goodness for ftp via Cygwin. But enough geek talk.

As an update to my life, over Christmas I moved from sunny Florida to cold and snowy northern Michigan. People may think I'm crazy, but I like it up here, even though I live in a tiny town with fewer people than my private college had!

Edit: Comments are working now!

Brand Spankin' New

Please bear with me as I redesign my website. The old look was fine a couple years ago considering it was my first website, but as I got more experienced, the site just got uglier and less efficient. So now I am creating a nicer-looking, better-coded site that I can actually link to without embarrassment! Stay tuned while I add new features.
